This is an MTH 30-1118-1 O Pennsylvania 4-6-2 K-4s Torpedo Steam Locomotive and Tender with ProtoSound from 1997. Features include a precision flywheel equipped motor, a DCRU electronic reverse by QSI, optionally equipped with ProtoSound, squeaking brakes and passenger sounds. Additional features include die-cast trucks, operating knuckle couplers, and metal wheels and axles.
This locomotive does not include DCS (Digital Command System) features because it has ProtoSound 1.0. Only locomotives with ProtoSound 2.0 and ProtoSound 3.0 include DCS functions.
Introduced in its prototype form in the late 19th century, the 4-6-2 would take the world by storm at the turn of the 20th century, being seen as one of the biggest innovation in the history of locomotives -- the 4-6-2 would quickly finds its place in rail-yards across the world. Heralded for its ability to haul passengers, the 4-6-2 was a versatile model hauling freight and coal as well, with tank variants being introduced later during the 20th century. Traveling at speeds upwards of 100mph the 4-6-2 was featured on rail-ways ranging from Argentina to Egypt, and all the way to the far East in China! This item has been graded per TCA standards C-5: Good based on visual appearance. The tender's shell is heavily corroded and damaged from zinc rot and corrosion. The locomotive's shell is completely loose from the chassis. The locomotive's pick-ups are heavily corroded. The tender's shell is completely broken with a large portion missing. The remainder of the tender's shell is very brittle with cracking visible across most of the body. The locomotive and tender are being sold As-Is. This item has been inspected by our repair shop.
