The Lionel 224 Vintage O Gauge Postwar 2-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive from the 1940s. The 224 is one of the few Lionel engines made in both the Prewar and Postwar eras. It features a die cast metal body, rounded cab floor, motor, 3-position E-Unit, and an operating headlight. It does not have a smoke unit, which is why it was dropped from the Lionel line after 1946 and replaced by the smoking 675/2025 engines.
The 2026 was classified by Lionel as a Prairie-type steam engine. It's a mid-size steam engine and was sold as an 027 gauge item. The early 2026 is a fancier locomotive compared to the later version. In addition, the 2026 shares its boiler casting with other Lionel locomotives such as the 637, 2016, 2018, 2029 and 2037 steamers: however the internal workings are different. This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. These items are being sold as-is because the 2026 did not run properly. The 224 is missing a set of wheels & therefore wasn't able to be tested. There are nicks, scratches, and scuffs along the locomotives. The wheels show heavy signs of previous wear. There are also spots of surface rust/tarnishing along the wheels and axels on both locomotives. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning.
