Lionel 6-8578 O Gauge New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car EX/Box

Here is a Lionel 6-8578 O Gauge New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car from 1985. This is a reissue of the Postwar Era 54 Ballast Tamper. It features a set of small pile drivers on the front that move up and down and "tamp" down the ballast rock along the track. The tamping action is controlled by track activators. When the tamping action is activated, the motor slows down to half speed.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent based on visual appearance. There are light nicks and scratches on the surface of the shell and chassis. The instruction manual is included.
