This set features Trainmaster command control, Railsounds sound system with CrewTalk communication and TowerCom announcements, Odyssey system for speed control with on/off switch, Wireless Tether between locomotive and tender, high-torque Pittman motor, ElectroCoupler on rear of tender, operating headlight, flickering firebox, ash pan glow, illuminated marker lights on locomotive and tender, fan-driven smoke unit, traction tires, die-cast metal boiler, tender, trucks and pilot, cab window glass, engineer and fireman figures, and illuminated doghouse on tender with brakeman figure.
Drawing its roots from South Africa and first introduced in the early 19th century, the 4-8-2 or also commonly referred to as the "Mountain" type made waves when it first hit rail-ways thanks to a re-designed truck system that granted these powerful locomotives excellent stability when traversing at high speeds with passenger cars.
