This is an American Flyer 290 Vintage S 4-6-2 Die-Cast Steam Locomotive & Tender. This locomotive features die-cast metal construction, a motor, a reverse unit, an operating headlight, an operating smoke unit, metal side rods and metal wheels. The tender features a choo-choo sound, tinplate construction, sintered iron trucks, plastic and metal wheels, and metal axles.
Introduced in its prototype form in the late 19th century, the 4-6-2 would take the world by storm at the turn of the 20th century, being seen as one of the biggest innovation in the history of locomotives -- the 4-6-2 would quickly finds its place in rail-yards across the world. Heralded for its ability to haul passengers, the 4-6-2 was a versatile model hauling freight and coal as well, with tank variants being introduced later during the 20th century. Traveling at speeds upwards of 100mph the 4-6-2was featured on rail-ways ranging from Argentina to Egypt, and all the way to the far East in China!
